Jeppesen and Avidyne Corporation announced the integration of JeppView with electronic European VFR charts for use on Avidyne’s Entegra EX500 and EX5000 and their new EX600 Multi-Function Display (MFD) avionics systems. Avidyne Corporation is the first avionics manufacturer to integrate the Jeppesen Visual Flight Rules (VFR) electronic chart solution for the glass cockpit. The electronic VFR terminal charts (formerly known as the Bottlang Airfield Manual) provide critical navigation information for pilots flying VFR in Europe, and are geo-referenced, allowing the pilots to view their ownship position and flightplan right on the charts.
The Jeppesen VFR terminal charts library contains 2,200 airports of 29 European countries. Benefits of viewing VFR charts electronically in the glass cockpit include ease of access to VFR-specific information, including traffic patterns, reporting points and noise sensitive areas. These features help to enhance the situational awareness of pilots flying within the highly congested European airspace.
Private and commercial pilots also benefit from a reduction in paper charts in the cockpit, with Jeppesen leading the industry towards a paperless flight deck. All Jeppesen IFR and VFR terminal charts, as well as electronic text, can be backed-up through PCs for ground preparation or mobile tablet PCs in the cockpit. Additionally, this new VFR option completes the capabilities of Avidyne-equipped aircraft by allowing pilots to switch between VFR and IFR rules, depending on weather conditions or aerodromes available.
If you want VFR charts to be displayed on your Avidyne MFD, you will need Release 8 on your MFD as well as Cmax.
With the correct subscription, you gain acces to the latest chart series which allows the VFR and/or IFR charts to be displayed on your MFD.
